The Argentine is missing the second Champions League game running which is very rare

Leo Messi will rest again in Barca’s Champions League clash with Ferencvaros in midweek. He missed the Dinamo Kiev game last week, and this time Philippe Coutinho and Ter Stegen will also have a break it seems.

Messi is not usually left out unless injured or suspended, so it’s rare to see him miss two UCL games running.

Ronald Koeman explained in his press conference why Messi will not be in the squad.

“I know it’s not normal, but in the calendar this season there were two moments to rest Leo Messi, Kiev and tomorrow, because we are already qualified,” said Koeman.

“It also influenced the decision to give some opportunities to other players and Saturday’s game is important for us in La Liga. From tomorrow, there are no more days to rest.”
