The surreal record that Lionel Messi is close to breaking

It seems crazy but it's true, he could be La Liga's best ever substitute in terms of goals

Lionel Messi's greatness has no limits and he showed it again on Sunday against Real Betis. Two minutes after coming on he scored a goal in one of his first moments on the ball and helped Barcelona come from behind to win.

Curiously Messi is on the the verge of an interesting statistic: he could become the best substitute in the history of La Liga. According to Mr. Chip on Twitter only Julio Salinas has scored more goals than Messi when coming on off the bench.

The former player netted 28 times in that situation and Leo has 27. With his goal against Real Betis Messi equalised Oscar de Paula in this ranking. The top five are completed by Walter Pandiani with 26 goals, and Manu Sarabia with 22.

So Messi is just one goal away from Salinas and two from being the standalone best ever substitute in La Liga. It seems he cannot move for breaking records.
