Their opinion has changed throughout the season and Gomez is no longer the favourite

Barcelona want to sign a No 9 this season. They have been looking at two players a lot - Andre Silva and Maxi Gomez, but neither are now favourites to come to the Camp Nou.

At the start of the season Barca staff looked at Sevilla’s Silva. The characteristics and youth of the players on loan from AC Milan seemed right. Then with Gomez’s ‘boom’, he became an option too.

Instead Luka Jovic, the young Eintracht Frankfurt striker, took the spotlight.

The player’s agent has explained his man would like to come to Barcelona and the Catalans are considering the Serbian as a serious option.

His recent match-winning display and goal against Inter Mila win the Europa League shows why. Although both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have asked after him too.

Nicolas Pepe is an option that Barca like too. The Lille striker has a lot of suitors though and would cost around 60 million euros.

The economic aspect limits Barca, who need to sell to buy - Coutinho, Rakitic, Cillessen are all potential outs. Maxi Gomez is the most low cost option. But Barca’s long list is now a shortlist.
