Tired of falling short in Europe, the loss to Barcelona was the final blow

In recent seasons he has seen some of his closest friends leave the club

There are various reasons which have prompted Marco Verratti's desire to leave Paris Saint-Germain. Le Parisien explain in an article why the midfielder feels his time at the French club has come to an end.

Among Verratti's arguments, the report highlights the moral blow PSG's Verratti suffered during the Champions League. The Italian international was brilliant in the first leg, but was overcome in the return leg as his side were historically beaten 6-1 -- by Barcelona, the club who now want to sign him.

It was not the first time Verratti exited the Champions League disappointed, a competition which PSG have not been able to take steps forward in during the last few seasons. Despite having a huge budget and star players, the French side have not reached a final and have been knocked out in or before the last eight by Europe's elite.

Among the other reasons behind Verratti wanting to move is the departure of some players who formed part of his inner circle at the club: Salvatore Sirigu, Lavezzi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Verratti believes the time has come to leave and Barça is the option which he wants to happen.
