Barcelona confirmed on Friday that they had sacked B team coach Garcia Pimienta with one year to run on his contract.
Pimienta was already planning for next season when he received the unexpected news, which can be attributed to three reasons: sporting, financial and, the third, due to the restructuring being carried out within the academy.
Barça's version of sporting reasons is that he's been incapable of getting the B team out of the third division in Spain, losing in the playoffs in the last two years.
According to club sources, the fact the club have the biggest budget in the division should bring promotion, but it hasn't. For that reason, they want to look elsewhere and get back to the second tier.
As for financially, the club feel Pimienta is overpaid. They feel his salary is more in line with the second division than the third. In other words, he was earning too much.
Finally, Barça justify the decision with the fact they want to make big changes within the academy structure.
Aureli Altimira and Álex García have also been let go and Jordi Roura's future is uncertain.
