Lionel Messi and Pedri’s show at San Mames doesn’t hide the other good news for Barcelona - Ousmane Dembele’s fine form. The Frenchman is in his best moment at the club and showed in Bilbao he has the spark he needs to come good. If injuries respect him, Dembouz is the winter signing Ronald Koeman’s team needs.
It’s been three and a half years since Dembele arrived from Borussia Dortmund. He’s had a terrible time with injuries since turning up at Camp Nou. Despite various acts of indiscipline in the past, Barcelona have kept faith in Dembele.
He started for the second game in a row against Athletic, something that happened just once this season before - (Betis and Atletico). He showed he should stay in the team too. Despite his good performance, his margin for improvement is huge. He shot twice at goal in the first 20 minutes, didn’t lose the ball and his great handicap, decision making, wasn’t a problem.
He is gaining confidence and rhythm. He asked for the ball constantly and when he participated he helped Barca change their rhythm. And in defence he did what Koeman wanted, until he went off for Braithwaite in the 75th minute. Dembele, Messi, Pedri and Ansu Fati should be Barcelona’s front four, when fit.
