The centre-back would like to join Lyon who are looking for a centre-back in the market

Samuel Umtiti still hasn't found a team, despite Barça offering him both the letter of freedom and to pay part of his wages. The French centre-back has had some interest from Italian and Turkish clubs, as well as Olympiakos, but nothing has progressed. In the meantime, the player is trying to return to Olympique Lyon, the club where he made his breakthrough, in a bid to resuscitate his career and confidence. Olympique Lyon need a defender, but for now, have not looked at Umtiti.

Olympique Lyon's transfer policy this summer has focused on bringing back players who blossomed from there, to allow them to finish their careers at the same club. The two big returnees have been Tolisso and Lacazette, who arrived on free transfers from Bayern Munich and Arsenal respectively. Both are great friends of Umtiti's and would welcome him back gladly, but the centre-back's fitness has made the French club hesitate.

Umtiti wishes to return to Lyon and is very aware that the club is actively looking for a centre-back on the market. Barça are worried because his departure is a tough case, but they will hold out until the last day of his contract, as their relationship with the Frenchman and his entourage is good and they know he is doing everything possible to leave.
