The loan clause that is holding up Barcelona's move for City's Gündogan

The German midfielder is a target but financial fair play rules are slowing Barça down

Ilkay Gündogan is one of Barcelona's targets for this summer's transfer window. The midfielder finishes his contract with Manchester City in June and wants a change of scenery.

City would like him to continue for another year, but they are starting to consider the midfielder as lost. Xavi wants more talent and the German fits in with his plans and those of the club, as he would arrive for free and would sign for two seasons.

Everything is on track, but according to 'Jijantes' there is a clause that Barça are proposing that the player, for the moment, does not accept and that is related with the financial fair play situation that is squeezing the club.

Barça have problems registering players and, faced with this situation, they want to cover their backs. That is why, according to these reports, both in the case of Iñigo Martínez and Gündogan, they want to sign a clause according to which, in the case of not being able to register either of these players, they would go on loan to another team while earning same amount of money.

Iñigo Martínez, easier

The centre-back would be willing to sign this clause, which would be a solution in the worst possible scenario, while Gündogan is thinking about it. Barça, in any case, hope that it does not come to this extreme and they will be able to reduce their wage bill sufficiently to be able to sign the players this summer.

The club is working to bring in top-level players who finish their contracts and can arrive for free. Martínez and Gündogan fit this profile and Xavi likes them. Barça have earmarked the money available to reinforce the team this summer in two positions: centre forward and right-back.

These are the two main priorities with two names on the table: striker Vitor Roque (Athletico Paranaense) and full-back Juan Foyth (Villarreal). Both signings will be very complicated because of the market price of both players and because of the competition for their signatures.
