The latest on De Jong's future as Barça, PSG & Man City fight for midfielder

De Jong has delayed making a decision for the time being

Another twist in the Frenkie de Jong show. When everything seemed sorted, and it was just a case of a move to Paris Saint-Germain being announced, a last-minute intervention from Barcelona has, at the very least, delayed his decision.

That's what has been revealed by 'El club de la Mitjanit', who have explained that De Jong had planned to meet with Ajax on Friday. In this meeting, De Jong was set to announce his decision: that's to say, whether he wanted to move to Barça, PSG or Manchester City.

It was expected that he would break off his agreement with Barça in favour of PSG. Earlier this week, Josep Maria Bartomeu was told that the Catalans were about to miss out on the Dutch midfielder.

That information made the president act. On Thursday, he traveled to Amsterdam with Pep Segura, Eric Abidal and Ramon Planes to try and change the player's mind.

The delegation returned without getting a 'yes' from De Jong, but they managed to get him to take a few more days before making his decision. A decision which is expected within the next week.

Bartomeu's intervention had an immediate reply from PSG. On Friday, one day after Barça's Amsterdam trip, Antero Henrique, the sporting director at the French club, traveled to the Dutch city to try and close an agreement.

Everything is now in De Jong's hands and he has a date: the coming week.
