FC Barcelona will earn a net profit of 52 million euros, plus another €10m in variables

Now that FC Barcelona and Juventus have agreed terms on a swap deal involving Miralem Pjanic and Arthur Melo, it's time for a deeper look at the financial side of the operation. For Barça, it will see them earn a net profit of €52m for the 2019/20 season. This doesn't include the extra €10m from potential bonuses. This financial restructuring could allow the club to sign a major name, such as Lautaro Martinez, this summer.

There are concerns about the sporting side of the deal (at 30 years of age Pjanic is a player with very little potential whereas Arthur is someone good enough for the present, as well as having room to develop) but this was primarily a transfer for financial reasons. It's very similar to the deal Barça made with Valencia last season when CIllessen went to Mestalla whilst Neto moved to the Camp Nou. It allowed both teams to strength their accounts before a new financial year began.

And when it comes to evaluating Pjanic, the player, it's impossible not to be excited. He's an established, top quality midfielder who is entering his prime years.

Barça have sold Arthur for €72m before the 30th June with another €10m in potential bonuses. Barça paid €30m for the Brazilian and during his two seasons at the club they have amortized €10m, meaning €20m is left. His sale sees the club earn a net profit of €52m.

Juve have sold Pjanic to Barça for €60m and the deal can be amortized during the four years of his contract at €15m per season.

These numbers allow Barcelona the opportunity to bring in a major name such as Lautaro Martinez.

DIFFERENCE IN SALARY

In terms of the club's annual salary, it doesn't make as good reading. Arthur earned €5m per season whereas the Bosnian international will pocket €6m in each of his four years at the Camp Nou.
