The Catalan coach of Al Sadd is coming back to Camp Nou six years later

Xavi Hernandez, a Barcelona player between 1998 and 2015, and currently the coach of Al-Sadd, will be taking over at the Catalan club.

He will sign for the rest of the season and the next two, up to June 2024. He is the Barcelona player with the most appearances in history (767 games), behind only Lionel Messi (778).

The key question is when Xavi will arrive; he will be there at least until October 30, when Al-Sadd face Al-Ahli. Xavi’s club won’t make it hard to go to Barcelona, which is his dream.

Xavi said he would not speak about Barcelona in his press conference. However, he wants to come to Barcelona as soon as he can. It won’t be to face Alaves on Saturday, or on Tuesday, against Dinamo Kiev. His first Barca game will likely be on Nov 6 against Celta Vigo at Balaidos. B team coach Sergi Barjuan is in charge of the team for now.

The deal is close to being sealed, although in football nothing is ever 100 per cent until it’s on paper.
