The history of the Newell's shirt used in Leo Messi's Maradona tribute

Lionel Messi's homage to Diego Maradona was the most beautiful homage the best player in the world could pay to the Argentina legend.
After scoring against Osasuna, Messi peeled off his Barcelona shirt to reveal a Newell's Old Boys' shirt -- which had previously been worn by Maradona himself.
The legendary No.10 shirt ended up in the possession of Sergio Fernandez, a collector of shirts. He knew of Messi's Newell's connection and wanted to gift him the jersey.
A present
On several occasions, Fernandez unsuccessfully tried to give the shirt to the Barça star. Finally, he managed to get it to him during the 2018 World Cup. Since then, the shirt has had a special place in Messi's personal museum.
However, the shirt's previous owner, Fernandez, would never have imagined the role the shirt would go on to play, being used by Messi to pay homage to Maradona after his death last week.
