Valverde has been backed to continue by the board and the players but, if he did decide to walk away, here are the potential replacements

There's a lot of frustration and anger around FC Barcelona at the moment for how the season ended. Ernesto Valverde has been backed by the club's president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, as well as the players to continue at Barça next season. However there are still question marks surrounding his future and whether he's the correct choice to oversee the next stage of the squad's overhaul.

If Valverde wasn't at the club after the summer, here are the four choices to replace him:

TEN HAAG

The first name on the list is man of the moment, Erik Ten Hagg. The Ajax coach has captured the hearts of onlookers as his side battled and beat some of the best sides in Europe playing wonderful football but they were knocked out by Tottenham Hotspur.

For supporters, Ajax's brand of football reminded them of Pep Guardiola's 'perfect' team. The two worked together at Bayern when the Catalan took charge of the senior side and Ten Hagg the youth side.

He currently has a contract with Ajax until 2020 and knows de Jong and de Ligt better than anybody.

RONALD KOEMAN

Another name in the frame is that of Ronald Koeman. He was the hero of Wembley in 1992 and knows Barça's style like the back of his hand. He's also worked alongside another former Barça man, Louis van Gaal.

However Koeman has a contract with Holland until 2022 and has helped them reach the 'Final Four' of the Nations League following a period of disappointing results on the international stage.

ROBERTO MARTÍNEZ

Roberto Martinez is another option. He's coached the Belgian national side since 2016 and helped them finish 3rd in the World Cup 2018.

He's been linked with a move to Real Madrid as well but the fact he's under contract (until 2020) made it difficult for the two sides to come to an agreement.

Martinez, or 'Bob' as he's often referred to in England, had spells with both Wigan and Everton. He might not have a specific history with Barça but his sides have always tried to play good football which will please the fans.

LAURENT BLANC

The last name on the list if someone who is actually available on a free transfer: Laurent Blanc. The footballing legend is most known for his spell in charge of PSG but he, like many before - and after - him fell victim to the side's inability to win the Champions League. He's another coach that likes to play attacking football with the ball on the ground and as such has been linked with replacing Quique Setien at Real Betis.
