Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique and Sergi Roberto have been named as Barça's four captains for this season

The key members of Barcelona's squad for next season have been revealed and there's a small detail that fans and board members are going to love: All of them came through the ranks at La Masia. A point the club itself didn't ignore as they posted a photo of Barcelona's four captains accompanied by the words: "The Pride of La Masia."

The typical voting process is done by Barcelona's players and they decide who will be the captains in the first team for the coming season. Following the departures of Iniesta and Mascherano, this left two vacant spots from the available four. These are the players who have the most power inside the Camp Nou dressing room.

The new captains at Barça for the 2018/19 season are Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets, who form part of the quartet alongside the representatives of the team, Gerard Pique and Sergi Roberto. The four captains came through the academy at Barcelona: La Masia. Pique and Roberto beat out Ter Stegen and Rakitic, two players who were keen to be part of the group.

In fact, the new captains correspond with the places for the longest serving players. The centre back, who born in Barcelona, has been at the club since 2008 when he returned from Manchester United. Roberto, who was born in Reus, has only been part of the first team since 2013 although his debut came in the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid in 2011.

Curiously, the current selection of La Masia captains isn't the first time all four members of have come through the youth system at Barcelona. Back in 2014/15 the captains were Xavi, Iniesta, Messi and Busquets.
