The economic blow Barcelona will suffer if they face Champions League KO

It won't be good news for the club's coffers if Bayern beat them on Wednesday night in Europe

With just 48 hours to go before the most important game of Barcelona’s season to date, there are various different potential outcomes. Barça most likely have to win to progress in the Champions League, and win against a fearsome Bayern Munich side at that.

If Barcelona are eliminated, for the first time in 20 years in the group phase, there will be economic consequences.

Barcelona have budgeted to reach at least the quarter finals of the tournament. A KO now would see the club suffer a 20.2m euro hit on their expected income. Barcelona have picked up 15.64m euros for playing in the group phase so far.

Obviously they would then get some money for participating in the Europa League, albeit not that much. Winning it would see them picking up 14.9 million euros - 5.3m less than reaching the QF of the UCL.
