The differences between Manchester United and Barcelona for De Jong

United have made an opening bid according to a report in Marca on Wednesday

Barcelona are holding out for more but are open to selling the Dutch midfielder

Frenkie de Jong is one of the players that Barcelona have identified as someone who could bring in a good fee this summer to help with their financial situation and their squad overhaul. Even though Xavi Hernandez will count on the midfielder if he stays, it is now undeniable that the club are not against selling De Jong who, so far, has not matched expectations.

Manchester United are, without any doubt, the most interested in the Dutch midfielder. In fact, per MARCA, the Red Devils have made their first offer for the player. Coach Erik ten Hag wants him. He wants him to be a key player in his new project. United's bid is reported to be €60m plus €20m in add-ons. It's close to what Barça want but not enough. Despite his performances not being as hoped, it cannot be denied he is still one of the best in his position.

Barça's initial posture is €100m. In recent weeks, due to the club's financial state and United's interest, sporting director Mateu Alemany has been 'pushed' to drop his demands. Barça would be ready now to accept €80m-€85m plus add-ons. The coming weeks will be key to determining De Jong's future, who appears further away from Camp Nou.
