The midfielder took their Benjamin youth team to pieces
Gavi is the man in fashion at Barcelona after his stunning Spanish Super Cup final performance. At 18 he is a key player for Xavi, and a bet for years to come. How did Barca discover him>
Journalist Josep Capdevila explained on Twitter about the club’s first move for the Los Palacios born boy.
He says that Barcelona started looking at him at the “mundialito” for kids in Portugal, where Betis faced Barca. Gavi showed what he is capable of even back then.
He finished the match with four goals and an assist and won the title for his team. Barca could not let him escape.
“Pablo (Gavi’s first name) did what Pablo does, his competitive gene, his intensity, being a player that never wants to lose anything, putting all that talent and will to win at the service of his team,” he said.
“He did not let us have the ball, he recovered, moved away from our pressure and offered himself (as an outlet). We couldn't stop him,” said David Sanchez, the Barca Benjamin coach.
After the final Gavi stayed at Betis for the 2014-15 season but Barca did not forget him and brought him in that summer, ahead of the 15-16 campaign.
From there, his story is more than known…
