Jordi Farre wanted to bring in the German if he won the election

As Ronald Koeman's future remains up in the air long-term, a lot of names are being linked as his possible replacement at Barcelona.

Robert Martínez, Marcelo Gallardo, Andrea Pirlo, Xavi Hernández and even Erik ten Hag have all been linked but it's not an easy job to take on. Contact, calls, messages... it's all just the first step.

Before this whole house of cards tumbled, another elite coach received a call from Barça. A call that didn't lead to anything, but could have changed things for Barça. That coach was Jurgen Klopp, the current Liverpool boss.

During the election campaign at the end of last year, one of the pre-candidates, Jordi Farre, contacted Klopp's camp to see if he would be interested in taking over at Camp Nou if he was elected president.

The initial response was negative, although Farre was convinced conversations with Klopp would continue if he made the next stage of the election. Kloppe was his favourite and he felt that, as president, Barça had to put all their effort in to replacing Koeman.

Months later, Klopp, in an interview, said that his intention is to take a sabbatical once he leaves Liverpool.

In the end, with only 2,082 signatures, Farre didn't make it to the next stage and his dream of becoming president died -- as did Barça's chances of bringing in Klopp, however slim they were.
