Pjanic remains involved with Juventus but Arthur's Barcelona career looks over

On April 29, Arthur Melo released a statement expressing his desire to stay at Barcelona. On June 29, Barça and Juventus confirmed a deal that would see Arthur move to Italy and Miralem Pjanic head in the other direction for the 2020-21 season.

The arrangement saw Barça make 12 million euros plus five million in possible variables, with both players to remain at their current clubs until the end of the current season.

But while Pjanic has remained key for Juve in recent weeks, helping them win another Serie A title this week, Arthur has basically disappeared -- largely of his own accord -- since the transfer was made official.

Pjanic, 30, has played 325 minutes for Juve. He has featured against Genova (74'), Torino (49'), Milan (69'), Sassuolo (57') and Sampdoria (78'), while Sarri did not use him against Atalanta, Udinese or Lazio. Arthur, in contrast, hasn't played for Barça since the game at Celta Vigo in June.

The image of him yawning on the bench during the loss to Osasuna was a reflection of the rupture between him and the club. Coach Quique Setien left him exposed when he alleged he had an injury without a medical statement that saw him miss the final game of the season against Alaves.

With the Champions League around the corner, Pjanic is considered key for Juve's game against Lyon. Meanwhile, Arthur has decided not to return to Barcelona for the important Napoli fixture. After missing the games against Atlético, Villarreal, Espanyol, Valladolid, Osasuna and Alavés in La Liga, Setien's not going to have him available for Europe, either. A sad goodbye.
