The authority of Barça's Ter Stegen on show in an empty Camp Nou

The German goalkeeper is one of the leaders of Setien's Barcelona side

Camp Nou has become an echo chamber for the shouts of the players with La Liga being played behind closed doors. Barcelona, a calm team naturally, are not big shouters on the pitch and the player with the biggest voice if Marc ter Stegen. The goalkeeper is usually the one to give instructions thanks to the perspective he has watching the play, but it was also telling to see his encouragement for the younger players on Tuesday.

Ter Stegen tried to organise the team from the back and one of the players he guided the most early on was Arthur, to keep him well-positioned defensively from his midfield role.

In this sense, the German focused specifically on helping the two youngsters on the left flank, Junior Firpo and Ansu Fati. The main concern he had was that they, like Arthur, were well-positioned to carry out their defensive duties. You could hear his orders all around the stadium.

Riqui

Ter Stegen expressed himself at all times in perfect Spanish, even using words that demonstrate his depth of the language. "Careful with the marking," was one of the expressions that he used to make sure the centre-backs were switched on as Barça attacked to ensure the Catalans were not countered.

He ended the theory that goalkeepers lose concentration without the presence of supporters. That was not further from the truth than in his case. He took care of every little details. For example, when Riqui Puig came on and missed a chance, you could hear from the back: "Good Riqui, good!" Ter Stegen was focused on the game and didn't take anything for granted, even after Lionel Messi made it 2-0.

Locked down

"Push them out," he ordered Samuel Umtiti to ensure that Leganes didn't force Barcelona back into their own area. The German stopper wanted to keep a clean sheet at all costs and, even though there were a couple of scares, he achieved his objective.
