Tebas: "Barça's Laporta should be sacked by Rubiales from the RFEF board"

The Negreira affair continues to give a lot to talk about and with new information coming out on the subject all the time, Javier Tebas has taken the opportunity to hit out at Joan Laporta once again.

On this occasion, he has taken advantage of the round table organised at the presentation of the ISDE Sport Convention 2023 in Madrid, in which he also wanted to give his version on the refereeing controversy in the clásico. 

The LaLiga president stated that Laporta should be sacked from the RFEF board by Luis Rubiales following the Negeira Case scandal. Tebas has once again insisted on the need for the president of the Catalan giants to give an explanation for the payments.

"The Federation has a director who is the president of a club that has been paying the vice-president of the referees for 20 years and should not be on the Board of the Federation, but that is the decision of its directors," Tebas said.  

Regarding the European Super League, the main topic of the presentation, Tebas stressed that he does not believe that it will be affected by the Negreira Case and, once again, he took the opportunity to flatly deny any possible negotiation.

"Something that has worked for 20 years, why are we going to change it? Why do three (clubs) want more power? There is no need to change what has worked," he said.

Offsides

The other big topic which Tebas was asked about was the refereeing controversy that has developed from the offside Marco Asensio's goal in last Sunday's clásico. In this regard, he confirmed the arrival of semi-automatic offside from next season, although he wanted to make it clear that it will not change situations such as the one in question. 

"The semi-automatic (offsides) will solve something else, but the play in the clásico, it won't," he said. "In the end, you have to choose a frame to do it. We are going to see if we can solve something, but we have to turn the refereeing issue around."

Another of the issues Tebas discussed was the registration of Gavi.

"They have not given us the reason on the merits, only that they presented the precautionary measure one day late," he said. "There is still the main lawsuit, which still has time left."

He hopes Gavi will not be left out of Barça's squad next season, but the current situation is that he is still not registered beyond the current campaign.

Tebas also took the opportunity to stress that "we are not going to change the economic control for Barcelona."
