Socios say NO to the introduction of electronic vote for Barça's elections

Victor Font's initiative needed two thirds of the vote but fell just short on Sunday

As was predictable, the sixth order of the day at Barcelona's AGM on Sunday was the most controversial. The call for electronic voting to be introduced for presidential elections invoked passion among those present at the Palau Blaugrana.

After a long discussion about the system, featuring both the secretary of the board, Maria Teixidor, and the promoter of the electronic vote, Victor Font, the proposal did not move forward as it failed to get two-thirds of the votes from the socios in attendance.

There were 359 votes in favour, 173 against and 67 abstained from voting. To be passed, a minimum of 417 votes was required.

Almost 5,000 socios had signed for Font's proposal to be implemented, which meant it was included in the order of the day for Sunday's AGM.

Its failure to pass means socios will not be able to vote electronically -- for now -- at the 2021 elections. They will, as is custom, have to travel to the voting booths.
