Six Liverpool fans arrested in Barcelona ahead of Champions League game

There was trouble in the Catalan city on Tuesday night ahead of the semifinal

The Guardia Urbana arrested six Liverpool fans on Tuesday night in Barcelona following disturbances in Plaça Reial, just of la Rambla in the Catalan city. 

Large numbers of Liverpool supporters gathered in the square ahead of their Champions League game against Barça on Wednesday at Camp Nou. 

The British fans tipped locals into the fountain in the middle of the square and also threw objects at local police. Two employees at the Placa Reial Hotel were also assaulted and needed medical attention, while two other people also suffered minor injuries as a result of fighting. 

Following the arrest of six Liverpool supporters bu the Guardia Urbana, they were handed over to the Mossos d'Esquadra, who held them over night. 

Meanwhile, the Guardia Urbana have confiscated around 3,000 cans of beer which were due to be sold around Plaça Reial in the build up to Wednesday's game.
