The French forward has been linked with a Barcelona exit but he delivered a brilliant goal which showed just what he can give the club if given the chance.

Ernesto Valverde showed confidence in him by starting him up front with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez and the truth is, he was the best of the three. Arguably the best on the pitch.

Sevilla opened the scoring with the help of VAR, Pablo Sarabia curling home after eight minutes and although the goal was ruled out by the linesman it was soon reissued after the video ref proved it was onside.

Barcelona fought back into the game when Gerard Pique stabbed home from Lionel Messi’s free-kick which hit the post, the goalkeeper and the post again before finding the centre-back free in the box.

Rafinha and Arthur were taken off after a quiet first half and Barcelona improved a little with Coutinho and Rakitic in the centre of midfield.

However the game still looked like it was trickling towards extra-time, until Dembele intervened.

Picking the ball up outside the area on the right flank, Dembele rocketed a strike in to the top left corner, in off the crossbar.

There was time for Aleix Vidal to have a say, coming on as a substitute for Sevilla after his move from Barcelona, the winger was brought down by Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the area.

The German made amends though, keeping Wissam Ben Yedder’s penalty out, allowing Messi to lift his first trophy as Barcelona’s captain.
