Sergio Busquets to leave Barcelona when his contract expires this summer

The decision has been made. Sergio Busquets will leave FC Barcelona as of 30 June, the day his current contract with the Blaugrana expires.

After several months of meditation, the Barça captain will bring an end to his time at Spotify Camp Nou after 15 seasons in the first team.

Busquets will confirm his decision to Xavi on Wednesday and the announcement could be made public the same day, just days before Barça can become LaLiga champions at Cornellà-El Prat against Espanyol on Sunday.

According to SPORT, Saudi Arabia is positioned as the No.1 option for Busquets' next destination, although the player has not yet made up his mind. The only thing he knows is that he will not continue to play for Barça next season, as he will not be renewing his current contract.

The announcement has been rushed in the last few hours, although all parties preferred to make the decision public once the team has been proclaimed league champions. However, the club respects the player's will, given that he has earned the right to decide his future and make it official with the 'timings' he prefers.

Busquets already hinted at leaving in an interview with DAZN after the last league match against Osasuna, assuring that after these days of rest, he would make a decision and communicate it to the president, coaching staff and dressing room.

It is a decision that has been simmering and the club had the feeling that this would be the last season for the player from Badia del Vallès.

Thus, the end of 15 seasons in the Barcelona first team with more than 700 games, becoming the third player with the most games in the history of the club, only surpassed by Leo Messi and Xavi Hernandez.

He has 31 titles to his name and the possibility of extending his tally to 32 if Barça win La Liga. He would also be the club's third most successful player, behind Messi (35) and Iniesta (32) and tied with Piqué.
