Sergino Dest only thinking about Barça and not a January move

Despite the rumours abut Sergino Dest after he was left out of the Spanish Super Cup semi-final squad against Real Madrid, the defender is only thinking about staying at Barcelona and is not considering any type of move during the January transfer window.

Various top level teams in Europe are interested in Dest but the former Ajax man wants to win Xavi’s trust at Barcelona.

After an injury-hit spell at the end of 2021, with back and abductor problems, the full back is now recovering to 100 per cent fitness, where he hasn’t been for a couple of months.

Since Xavi’s arrival he has never played in his position at top fitness. He played on the right side of defence against Betis while he was not fit, wanting to help the team. Three days later, in Munich, he played further forward as a winger, on a night to forget for Barcelona. Playing these games while not fully fit caused him to take a step back in his recovery.

Now he’s close to 100 per cent and wants his chance in either of the full-back spots. After suffering from Covid-19 he’s looking to get his spark back. People close to the defender believe his electric profile could help at both ends of the pitch, especially in stopping rapid counter attacks. Against Real Madrid, Barcelona suffered in the transitions.

Sergino feels capable of reverting the situation, having shown he can defend against pacy top level players. He knows he has areas to work on and correct, but now he’s fit believes he can offer his best again. His people say he’s a young player with a lot of room to improve and hope the club can help him do it.

Dest only wants to stay at Barcelona and help the team, turning his situation around. If in June he has not convinced Xavi then that will be the moment to analyse and choose the best option from there. For now, Barcelona is his only option and he believes he can stay for a long time.
