Sergi Roberto to be Barcelona's new captain for the 2023-24 season

Sergio Busquets's departure from Barcelona will lead to a change of roles in the dressing room. The most important is the change of captain as the armband will pass to his successor, Sergi Roberto.

The player from Reus has renewed for another season, so his continuity at the club is assured. The dressing room has always respected hierarchies and, in this case, everything seems to indicate that the same thing will happen as Sergi Roberto is very much appreciated by his teammates.

The home-grown player has been at Barça since he was 15 years old and his commitment to the club has been total. Sergi Roberto agreed to renew his contract for the last two seasons for a minimum salary and put his loyalty to the colours before foreign proposals.

Xavi Hernández has always highlighted the importance of the player due to his versatility on the pitch and the role he plays in the dressing room. He is an example for the youngsters and also has a very good connection with the foreign core, such as Ter Stegen and De Jong. He meets all the requirements to be the ideal captain.

Dembele fourth captain?

Following the current order, Jordi Alba would become the second captain, in the event he completes the final year of his contract, Ter Stegen would be the third and a fourth would have to be chosen. Ousmane Dembélé, who arrived in 2017, would be the veteran. The other two players who have been at the club the longest are De Jong and Pedri.

The players could also opt for another way of choosing to longevity and, in this sense, Araujo and Lewandowski would be two other candidates.
