Sergi Roberto: I'm most comfortable as a left-sided central midfielder
The La Masia graduate returned to midfield in the win over Villarreal
Sergi Roberto shone in a midfield role on Sunday as Barcelona beat Villarreal 4-1 to keep within four points of Real Madrid with four games to go in La Liga.
Roberto has mainly played at right-back in recent seasons but says he still feels best as a midfielder, where he came through at La Masia.
"Tactically, it has been a while since I played there," he said after the game. "Sometimes I play central midfield but on the right and today I was on the left side, where I am most comfortable. It's where I played for Barça B."
The Spain international added: "I enjoyed it, I had a lot of fun, with space and focused on the opposition's defence. It's a shame I had to back to right-back [late on] but I am happy to help the team playing wherever."
On the win, he concluded: "We started really well, even though they equalised, and we were really comfortable against one of the form teams since the lockdown. From beginning to end it was a good performance and that's the path to follow."
