Bernd Schuster, former team-mate of Diego Armando Maradona at Barca, spoke about the late Argentine to El Transistor on Onda Cero radio. The German player said that the Barca team of the era was not enough for Diego.
"We left him alone on the pitch," said Schuster. "We could not take advantage of Diego, we let him a little alone out there. He was an indisputable leader on the pitch and we could not capitalise on it."
During Maradona's two years at Barca (82-84), the club only won a Copa del Rey, a League Cup and a Spanish Super Cup.
"He was a leader on the pitch. They made very ugly tackles on him but he didn't stop asking for the ball," added Schuster.
In terms of his personal relationship with Diego, the German added: "We admired one another for the way we played with our national teams. He always asked about me and my family."
