Sassuolo have confirmed that they are in talks with Barcelona regarding a deal for B team midfielder Monchu. The Italian club's CEO, Giovanni Carnevali, admitted negotiations in an interview with Sky Sport.
"He's a young kid, we're talking with Barça, it's something we did last season," he said. "We have a good relationship with them and he's a promising player."
However, Carnevali said a move is far from being completed: "There's interest, but from that to closing an operation there's still some distance."
Monchu, 20, had a stand-out season as Barça B just missed out on promotion to the second division, scoring 10 goals for the Catalan club's reserve team.
Italian side Sassuolo are not the only team interested in the young midfielder. Real Betis, Valencia and Real Sociedad have also enquired about his availability.
Barça would like to sell Monchu but with a buy-back option included with a view to re-signing him in two years.
