After largely playing second fiddle to Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet during Ernesto Valverde's time in charge, Samuel Umtiti still decided to reject a move to Arsenal this month. Under Quique Setien, Umtiti has become first choice again. Mikel Arteta was the person pushing to bring the centre back to his club following the injury to Mustafi.
According to 'Le Parisien', Barça were open to selling Umtiti if they received a fair offer. However the defender preferred to stay at the Camp Nou and fight for his place there.
Following Todibo's departure, Setien only has three senior centre halves to choose from (Pique, Lenglet and Umtiti) with Chumi and Ronald Araujo as backups from the youth team. Umtiti has decided to spend at least another season at Barcelona. All parties will revise the situation in the summer.
