Samuel Eto'o has announced his retirement from football. The 38-year-old Cameroonian striker's message on Instagram was short and sweet: "The End. It's time for a new challenge. Thank you, everybody."

The striker brings an end to a long playing career which saw him turn out for Real Madrid, Mallorca, Barça, Inter, Anzhi, Chelsea,  Everton, Sampdoria, Antalyasport and most recently in the Qatari League.

He spent five seasons at Barça and won two Champions Leagues, three LaLigas, one Copa del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups.

On the 17th December 2010 Eto'o became the only player in the world to have scored in seven different competitions in the same calendar year (African Cup of Nations, Serie A, Copa Italia, Champions League, World Cup, Italian Super Cup and the Club World Cup).
