The Portuguese centre back is expected to sign for Pep Guardiola's side and potentially allow Garcia to move to Barcelona

Portuguese defender Ruben Dias could hold the key to Eric Garcia's return to FC Barcelona. The Benfica centre back is set to join Manchester City this week and, once that deal is confirmed, it could free up Garcia to seal his move back to the Camp Nou.

Dias essentially confirmed his departure from Benfica following their match. "It was a special moment for me and I believe you all know why," he said. "I'm happy, of course. It was an important match for me and to score a goal was very special. I believe everyone has an idea why I hugged Rui Costa."

Manchester City initially tried to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla but couldn't agree on a fee. Dias is set to cost Pep's side around €55m.

NEW BID

There's renewed hope at the Camp Nou that once Dias is officially in at City, it could loosen their stance on letting Eric Garica leave the club. So far, City have reiterated they want a high fee or would let him run down his contract in England.

Barça are also looking to secure a signing of their own before making a fresh attempt to land Garcia. Sergiño Dest is expected to arrive in Spain over the next 48 hours to pass a medical and put pen to paper on his contract.
