Ronald Koeman's change of mind over Ilaix Moriba's future
The Dutch coach wants the midfielder with the first team going forward
Ronald Koeman believes in Ilaix Moriba. A lot. He wants him close by. And showed it at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. “Ilaix, Ilaix!” yelled the coach as soon as he saw Pedri could not continue. On he came, at 18 years old, and he did very well.
It was not expected that he would get minutes in the big clash at the Pizjuan. Moriba was with the squad to account for Pjanic’s absence. Barca B had called on him to feature against Lleida on Sunday. But that won’t happen now. Change of plans.
Ilaix is staying in Barcelona, with the first team. His good minutes and Pedri’s injury means Koeman doesn’t want to take risks with him.
Like with Oscar Mingueza, Ilaix will stay in the first team dynamic unit there is a new decision made. On Wednesday he will be in the squad to face Sevilla in the Copa del Rey. He even has a chance to start with Pedri out.
Sergio Busquets and Frenkie de Jong have their places guaranteed but the third part of the midfield is unknown. Before the Pizjuan, Riqui Puig seemed the most likely, now it’s not so clear.
