Ronald Koeman spoke about Lionel Messi's future in Sunday's press conference ahead of Monday's league game against Real Valladolid.
The Barcelona coach was asked if it would be best to give Messi a deadline to decide his future, with his contract up in the summer, to help the club plan for the future.
"Of course it is a really important issue," Koeman said. "We will do everything for Leo to spend more years at this club. But right now it's not about next season.
"We have to think about tomorrow's game and future things are for the president, his people (...) We speak because it's normal that we speak about future of the club. Me as the coach and the players are focused on the games."
Messi's future is a recurring issue. His deal expires in June and he will be free to join another club if he doesn't sign a renewal at Camp Nou.
