Ronald Koeman wants signings in January after a flood of injuries

Dembele's absence will be a short one but exposes Barca at a tough time

Barcelona have barely started in La Liga and the team has been hit by injuries and absences, because of the compressed calendar. Ronald Koeman believes that, despite the club's tough financial situation, transfers are necessary in January. He wants a centre-back, which might be on loan, and a versatile forward.

Koeman was angry after the Cadiz defeat and thinks his team have let their chances of winning La Liga slip. Gerard Pique is injured long term, Umtiti is always out and Lenglet is the only fit first-team centre-back.

Ousmane Dembele's injury, a hamstring problem, is the latest piece of bad news. It seems minor but his history in this regard is worrying. Ansu Fati is already out with a knee problem, so the team has lost their two fastest wingers.

For Koeman, signing Memphis Depay is important. The deal was done but finances meant he could not come. Martin Braithwaite has performed well but because of the injuries, they may try again.

The new board will be in place from after the elections on January 24 and they may take decisions on the matter.
