The former Barça coach explained that his compatriot does not want to go this summer

When Ronald Koeman speaks publicly he leaves nobody indifferent. The Dutch coach spoke at the Koeman Cup golf tournament in Sant Esteve de Sesrovires about various interesting topics. Among them, his Dutch compatriot Frenkie de Jong, whom many think will leave this summer.

“With Frenkie, with Memphis, I have a lot of contact,” said Koeman. “I know the situation of Frenkie and he said it himself the other day, he wants to stay. It was his intention to stay at Barcelona and nothing else. That is the only thing I know.”

He continued: “From my point of view it’s complicated, there are rumours, I don’t know if it’s the truth. Barcelona have always kept the best and signed them. To improve you can’t sell players like Frenkie de Jong.”

Regarding Memphis, Koeman added: “He came last year, free from Lyon. He’s shown he is a great player. I think that he’s a Barça player, that’s why we signed him. It depends on Xavi if he wants him or not, but for me it’s indisputable, he’s fit for Barça.”
