Ronald Araujo taken to hospital after clash of heads with Gavi

The Barcelona defender had to be taken to hospital after a serious on-pitch incident

Ronald Araujo was involved in an alarming scene at Camp Nou on Tuesday as he had to go off in an ambulance during Barcelona's game against Celta Vigo.

Barça later confirmed he had suffered a concussion and had been taken to a hospital in the city for further tests.

"Ronald Araujo has suffered a concussion and has been taken to the hospital to undergo further testing," the club said in a short statement to ease the alarm surrounding the defender.

The Uruguayan international collapsed to the floor after a clash of heads with teammate Gavi and had to be attended to by medical staff on the pitch.

There was concern on the faces of the Barça players and the Celta Vigo team as an ambulance was summoned to the pitch, with Araujo eventually leaving for hospital five minutes later.

Clement Lenglet replaced him omn 65 minutes with Barça 3-1 up thanks to goals from Memphis Depay and two from Aubameyang.

Gavi, who clashed heads with Araujo, stayed down for a while as well, but was able to continue eventually.
