Ronald Araujo obliges Barça to make an economic effort
The defender put on a fine showing at the Bernabeu with a goal in the bag to boot
From the Clasico in the Santiago Bernabeu, there is much to take home. The game signifies, fingers crossed, the start of the resurrection. And the individual displays like that of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were sensational. He arrived for nothing, with months without competing, renouncing a good part of his salary and has started historically well.
The Gabonese is not the only one to come out of the game well. Ronald Araujo was given the hardest job, shackling Vinicius Junior, and he thrived at right back, a position he’s not usually used in.
The Uruguayan not only did that but went up the other end and scored from Ousmane Dembele’s corner, beating Thibaut Courtois well.
His contract expires in 2023 and his renewal has not been signed yet. The first offer from the club he considered insufficient. Big sides want him and will pay more than Barcelona. However he is prioritising the Catalan club, where he is comfortable. but obviously he must also pay attention to economics.
We’ll see if Barcelona can unblock the renewal in coming weeks because performances like this in enemy territory are not commonplace.
