Ronald Araujo: I never doubted staying at Barça

The centre-back penned his new deal and was emotional at the event on Friday

“It’s a huge joy to be at this club, it’s the best team in the world. It’s tremendous. I give thanks to god, my family, my partner, it’s very important for us. I’m grateful for the support I’ve had since the start. I arrived at a club that had a different style, but thanks to everyone I could sign this contract,” said Ronald Araujo, through tears. Dreams do come true.

On Tuesday it was official and on Friday his new deal was signed, to keep him at Barca until 2026.

Unlike the Pedri and Ansu Fati renewals, which took place in the Auditorium with press conferences, this one was done on the Camp Nou pitch.

The predisposition of Araujo to stay was key to a deal being done, something that Joan Laporta, the president, highlighted. He had higher offers from elsewhere but the Uruguayan wanted to stay.

“Now I can vote,” he joked, after getting his socio membership card. “We worked a lot to reach Europe and then Barcelona. To be here in the first team, to feel important, is the fruit of a lot of work. I never doubted it, I was always clear I wanted to stay. I believe in the project, in the youngsters and I am sure that we will win a lot of titles. My commitment and work is not negotiable.”

He was with his parents Celestino and Karina, his partner Abigail and his daughter, who is not yet one year old.
