Riqui Puig's father: He should continue with his feet on the floor

Carlos Puig spoke about his son after his fine debut showing against Cultural Leonesa

At the end of the game Riqui Puig remembered that he had first come to Camp Nou as a three-year-old. Looking after him was his father, who spoke to RAC1 after the 4-1 win over Cultural Leonesa in which the 19-year-old made his official debut.

"We are Barca fans and to have a son playing here is unimaginable. Ricard deserves it because he's fought a lot to get here and the most difficult parts are still to come. To continue to be able to be where he is now is a dream come true," said Carlos Puig.

The father did not want to get carried away. "We have late the 'souffle' deflate and Ricard must keep his feet on the floor. He's a humble boy and we shouldn't overwhelm him too much. I speak today because we are happy for his debut. I don't like to talk to much in the media because parents can mess things up too. We will leave Ricard in peace. He will have days where he doesn't do well, where he is criticised, and we have to be prepared for everything."

He wants Ricard "to keep his relationship with his brothers, to breathe, to keep playing in Barca B, he hasn't played all he wants there yet. That he wins a place in the first team and he can make his path. It's true he has a talent, that is obvious. We have to leave him be, to see if he can progress because it's very hard."

"He's at the best club in the world, beside the best player of all time. He's a mirror, a master of football, and he's taking advantage of that. It's a privilage. I'd have put my socks on to see if they'd give me 10 minutes!" he joked.

The father, also Riqui's agent, dismissed reports he may leave. "The majority are lies, but you can't go dismissng everything. For example, they said Pep Segura wanted to kick him out of Barca, that's totally false. Segura believes a lot in Riqui Puig and he's protecting him, and the board too. I only have words of gratitude. What I can say is that the executives and Barca board want Ricard to stay at the club and we do too."
