Despite that, the midfielder will remain with the first team under Koeman

Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig will remain registered with the club's B  team but he will not play for the reserve team in the 2020-21 season.

Therefore, when he's involved with the first team he will have a number higher than 25, which is the cut off point between the first team and the B team.

However, Puig will remain part of Ronald Koeman's squad and will be involved with the seniors 100 percent of the time. Save any last-minute changes, he will wear the same shirt number as last season: 28.

Puig began his Barça career in 2013 after signing from Jabac de Terrassa and made his Barça B debut in 2017-18 against Gimnàstic de Tarragona. His first team debut arrived on Dec. 5, 2018, in a Copa del Rey win against Cultural.

15 FIRST TEAM GAMES

In 2018-19, under Ernesto Valverde, he played three games (192 minutes) across La Liga and the Copa. Last season, under Quique Setien and Valverde, he made 12 appearances for 578 minutes.

Puig will remain with Barça this season despite Koeman suggesting a loan may be a better option for him if he wants to play regularly. He has a contract until 2021, with an option to extend, and a 100 million euros release clause.

Despite Koeman's advice and the competition in the squad, the youngster has decided to stay and fight for his place. Camp Nou is his home.
