Leganes had hoped that an exception would be made to allow them to sign a player to cover the loss of Braithwaite, who signed for Barça last week

Leganes have exhausted every available option as they seek permission to replace Martin Braithwaite, who joined FC Barcelona last week. However, the RFEF have handed them bad news as they, like FIFA or LaLiga, can't allow Leganes to circumnavigate the rules. The LaLiga side hoped that the rule could be amended to allow for them to sign a player who had been bought for their buyout clause to replace a seriously injured player. In the RFEF's response, they said that giving Leganes permission to buy someone could damage the integrity and fairness of the competition.

However, the RFEF have informed Leganes that they are going to start proceedings to change the rule which allows for teams to sign someone in the case of a player suffering a serious injury outside of a transfer window. This was initially challenged back in 2016 but FIFA rejected the motion. Now LaLiga have joined the cause in wanting this rule changed.

Leganes remain firm in their belief that the current rules are unfair and feel grossly mistreated in the situation.
