Revealed: Villa's €40m option to make Coutinho move permanent
The Premier League side have signed the Brazilian on loan until the end of the season
SPORT have learned that Aston Villa's option to sign Philippe Coutinho in the summer from Barcelona is €40 million.
Barça and Aston Villa confirmed on Friday that Coutinho has joined the Premier League side on loan until the end of the season.
The move is subject to the Brazilian passing a medical and obtaining a work permit. He's expected to fly to Birmingham within 48 hours.
The deal includes an option for Villa to make the switch permanent, but neither club revealed how much said clause is worth.
However, SPORT can confirm that the prospective fee has been fixed at €40m.
Coutinho's performance back in England, where he previously played for Liverpool, will dictate whether or not Villa take up that option in the summer.
Barça paid €160m for Coutinho four years ago. He has 18 months to run on his contract at Camp Nou.
