Rafa Marquez will not return to Barcelona as coach of the U19s

| Real Alcalá

The Mexican has pulled out of a move back to Camp Nou at the last minute

SPORT revealed on June 29 that Sergi Mila would not continue at Barcelona in his role as the club's U19 team.

Albert Benaiges, the right-hand man of academy director Alexanco, was in charge of communicating the decision to Mila.

The name in everyone's lips to replace Mila was the former Mexico defender Rafa Marquez, but SPORT can confirm he's no longer an option.

The ex-Barça man has held meetings with vice president Rafa Yuste in recent days but a final agreement has not been reached.

Marquez, who at the end of March revealed he was leaving Real Alcala, will not take charge of Barça's U19s despite it being considered a given.

Instead, Barça will hand the job to Oscar Lopez, who for the last two seasons has been the coach of the U17s.
