Carles Puyol has shown his gratitude to Ernesto Valverde for the work he has done during two-and-a-half-years as Barcelona manager.
Valverde was sacked on Monday and replaced by Quique Setien, leaving Barça top of La Liga having won the title in each of the last two seasons, too.
"I want to give my thanks to Valverde," Barça legend Puyol said. "For me, he's done really well. I remember my early days were tough, we didn't win anything, we went five years without winning, and Valverde's won two leagues, Barça are top of this one, through in the Champions League... and he's out.
"The demands are high, but I want to thank him as a Barcelona fan for all that he has done and for his behaviour."
Asked if things will go better under Setien, Puyol added: "We hope so, yes, I always wish Barça that the best. At the end of the season is the time for assessments and I think we have a great team."
