Prosecutors seek charges against Barça, Rosell & Bartomeu in ref case

| sport

The official complaint was filed at a Barcelona court on Friday

A Barcelona court has received the charges sought by the Prosecutor's Office for the payments the club made to the former referee Enríquez Negreria.

The accusations single out the club as responsible for a continuous crime of corruption by sporting fraud, another of disloyal administration and falsification of commercial documents. They also targets former presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, as well as two other ex-directors, Óscar Grau and Albert Soler.

The prosecution claims that Barcelona had a confidential verbal agreement with the accused Enríquez Negreira so that, taking advantage of his position as vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), he would make favourable deals with the club in exchange for money with the intention of influencing the referees' decision making and, in this way, the club's sporting results.

The CTA, the body to which Negreira was linked, is in charge of refereeing appointments in Spain and of assessing referees who are promoted or demoted.
