Portuguese starlet Pedro Neto has rejected an offer from FC Barcelona. Sporting director Robert Fernandez has been given good reports on the youngster and Barça have had him followed for a while, but the player has decided to turn down the chance to sign for the Catalan club -- and also for Manchester United.

According to the Portuguese press, Pedro Neto, who made his debut for Braga's first team recently and scored a goal, has opted to stay where he is for now. He's signed an imporved contract until 2020 after visiting Barça and United's facilities. An intervention from Braga presdient Antonio Salvador seems to have played a key role.

Pedro Neto's father has explained to 'O Jogo' that "sportingly the offers from Barcelona and Manchester United were interesting, but economially we never received an offer. The president of Braga was also key. It was him who convinced us that the best thing for my son was to continue with Braga."

Braga president Salvador said: "Neto was a player we had lost, he was already out of Portugal. Barcelona and the biggest European clubs were after him. I've spent a lot of time trying to convince the family that the best thing was to stay with Braga."
