The team owned by the Barça defender could face Barça if they progress

The RFEF confirmed on Monday that Gerard Pique's Andorra had taken Reus' place in the Segunda B, meaning that, pending confirmation from the RFEF, the team owned by Pique could face Barcelona in the Copa del Rey.

A lot would have to happen but in football anything is possible. Let's explain why, starting with the new cup format for the 2019-20 season. There will now only be one-off games until the semifinals which means more room for non-professional teams.

116 clubs

Under the new design, there will be 116 clubs involved: 20 teams from the Primera, 22 from Segunda A, 28 from Segunda B (the top seven from each of the four groups last season), 32 from Tercera (18 group winners and the 14 best second-placed teams).

Also with a right to take part are the four semifinalists from the Copa Federación, which features the teams from Segunda B and Tercera. And one of the changes, which is where Andorra appear, are the 10 teams from the regional categories, who will come via a knockout game between the 20 champions of each group.

While Pique's team have taken Reus' place in Segunda B, they take their place in the Copa del Rey thanks to winning the Primera Catalana.

Their path will not be easy. First, they have to play another champion from the regional categories and, if they win that, they would progress into the knockout rounds. They would then have to make the last 32 to be drawn against a club from La Liga, like Barça.
