Pique recommends speaking less about VAR and more about the Catalan political prisoners

The defender spoke to the media after Barça beat Madrid on Wednesday

Gerard Pique remembered the Catalan political prisoners as he spoke to the media after Barcelona beat Real Madrid to make the Copa del Rey final.

The Barça defender urged the Spanish press to focus in the "unjust" trial Catalan leaders are currently standing following last year's unilateral referendum on independence.

Pique said: "If the Spanish television channels that are here spent a little more time covering the trial of the political prisoners, which is super unjust, so the people of Spain could see a little more of what's going on, instead of talking about VAR, maybe the country would be doing a little better.

On the 3-0 win over Madrid, which saw Barça make their sixth cup final in a row, Pique added: "I don't think what we have done is something that will ever happen again in the Copa del Rey.

"It was an important win. Madrid were on top in the first half, but we took advantage of the space better in the second half to win the game and the tie. It's a great way to reach the final. Winning here and reaching the final is always a cause for happiness.'

The two teams meet again in the league on Saturday but Pique warned against Barça taking their foot off the gas.

"It was a complicated game and they're not that far behind us [in the league]," he said. "We can't relax now because it would not bode well for Saturday.

"We're coming through this phase of games, which was really tough, really well. You can't always play well, but we're getting results and we hope to get another good result in the next Clasico."
